Supporting the Community
Globally, Ramsay Health Care commits significant funds each year to charitable initiatives and to health and medical teaching and research.
Teaching
Ramsay Health Care recognizes that it has an important role to play in the community both in terms of training and development of the future medical and nursing workforce. To this end, through its hospitals, the Company works closely with government and universities in the training of nursing and medical staff and commits major support to this area.
Charitable Causes & Medical Research
Across the globe Ramsay Health Care and its hospitals contribute over $1.5 million per annum to philanthropic causes and medical research.
Specifically, Ramsay Health Care is a major donor to some key medical research groups – including the Schizophrenia Research Institute in Australia which has been a beneficiary of Ramsay’s support for almost three years.
Ramsay Health Care has been an active supporter of the Schizophrenia Research Institute (SRI) since 2005. As Australia's largest provider of private hospital mental health services, we see every day the impact that schizophrenia can have on sufferers, their families and the community at large. We support the valuable role that the SRI plays in undertaking research into this illness and to this end we are a long term partner with the SRI. We have donated over $250,000 over the past 5 years towards the Institute and the development of the Australian Schizophrenia Research Bank – the largest brain research project in Australia. We hope that this research will go some way towards making a difference.
In Indonesia, RS Surabaya Indonesia (RSSI) has donated extensive time and financial resources to undertake cleft palate and complex cranio-facial surgery on children for a number of years. The hospital undertakes this life-changing surgery on over 200 patients per annum and this is supported by Ramsay Health Care. See here for more details
Sponsorship
Ramsay Health Care sponsors many community events. In Australia, Ramsay Health Care is a major event partner and naming rights sponsor of the National Triathlon Pink series. The Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink series event charity is the National Breast Cancer Foundation. With females making up the largest proportion of Ramsay Health Care staff and as many Ramsay hospitals have a focus on women’s health – sponsoring the Triathlon Pink series was seen as a perfect fit for the organization. Ramsay is proud to be associated with something that promotes health and fitness in the community as well as contributing funds towards a worthwhile cause.
Ramsay Charity Challenge for Employees
In 2008, Ramsay Health Care Australia launched Ramsay Charity Challenge. Ramsay Charity Challenge encourages employees to participate in initiatives that raise money for charity and Ramsay will contribute up to 20% of the funds the employees raise towards the charity of their choosing.
Many employees of Ramsay already participate in giving something back to the community through challenging fundraising activities and this is a way that Ramsay Health Care can assist staff with accomplishing their goals in the most fair and equitable way.
